A Yes, Mallory and Justin after 45 plus years of “watching the stores” have decided that time has come to find a new owner who will honor their father’s legacy and value the tradition of supplying “fine stationery for fine people”.
Q When will the stores be sold?
A There will be a search to find “the right buyer”. The timeframe is uncertain.
Q Is the business being sold because it is not doing well?
A Harvard Square and Cambridge is not exempt for the impact of recessions. Bob Slate’s has weathered many over the last 75 years. With a vision towards the future, the business remains healthy and profitable.
Q What will become of the Staff?
A. The Company has a proven business model executed daily by an experienced
management team and a dedicated staff. They are an integral part of the company. The new owner would be wise to keep and utilize the talents of the team. Mallory and Justin do not anticipate any changes.
Q What will become of Justin and Mallory?
A It is anticipated that they will remain involved with Bob Slate for some period after the sale in a consulting role to guide the new owner in a smooth transition. Beyond that they are exploring many possibilities for “the road ahead”.
Q Are Mallory and Justin optimistic about finding “the right buyer”?
A Bob Slate’s, in a recent Harvard University survey of Harvard Square users, has been named as the fourth most popular store to visit while in the Square. In addition, Bob Slate’s has received continuing recognition over the past years in Boston magazine Best of Boston awards. Justin & Mallory know the Bob Slate history and potential. They believe it is a very attractive offering that should appeal a buyer who will preserve its legacy as well as recognize and realize its potential.
